Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of a spouse¡¯s hand massage on anxiety, the spouse support and the perception on delivery experience of a painless childbirth primipara.
Methods: Non-synchronized design of a nonequivalent control group was established. The number of experimental group was 25 women and the control group was 25 women with analgesia for vaginal delivery. The intervention was conducted 4~6 times (10 mins/1 time). The data was collected from June 1 to August 15, 2013 and analyzed by ¥ö2-test, Fisher¡¯s exact test, and t-test, using SPSS PC+ 21.0 for Windows.
Results: Anxiety of primipara during active labor period (t=-2.42, p=.020) and during transition period (t=-3.77, p<.001) in experimental group were significantly decreased than in control group. The spouse support (t=2.34, p=.024) and the perception on delivery experience (t=3.33, p=.002) in experimental group was significantly higher than in control group.
Conclusions: The spouse¡¯s hand massage not only reduced anxiety of women during labor but enhanced the spouse support and the perception on delivery experience of primipara.
